St Philips Primary School, Bath
Goldies Founder Grenville Jones reports:
The 2014 Christmas party for Goldies across the Bath area was held at St Philip’s Church, Odd Down, Bath in December where the charity also holds a regular Goldies session. The nearby primary school brought along their choir who delighted the Goldies with their singing and joined in with them for some festive songs.
The school then staged a WW1 day inviting back about 20 of their older guests in February. On arrival the senior children – many dressed in WW1 clothes – welcomed the Goldies in the school hall with a cuppa and songs, including a Sunshine Song which the Goldies sang along to. Groups of the school choir then showed the Goldies around the classrooms and displays. Some of the Goldies had members of their families who had once attended the school in past years.
The whole school then gathered in the hall for a BIG SING – 250 children, the teachers and the Goldies “all together“ for the World War One Medley that was commissioned for the Goldies Heritage Lottery project. Head teacher Andy Joy welcomed everyone and told the Goldies how much the children enjoyed having them at the school.
Goldies founder Grenville Jones then led the rousing singing of the medley with everyone joining in. There was time then for another cuppa and biscuit before the community buses arrived to take people home.
