Saltford Primary School
Jennifer Evans Administrative Assistant at Saltford Primary School writes:
“The children at Saltford Primary School were delighted to welcome Goldies into school on Thursday 18th June for the Heritage Lottery concert "Our Memories in Song.”
"The KS2 children performed a selection of popular songs from World War One and World War Two to an audience of grandparents, Goldies, and friends from Saltford. The children were all dressed in costumes provided by the parents. After the concert, which lasted for one hour, the audience was treated to tea and cakes provided by, and served by, teachers and parents.
"The children have been looking at different aspects of World War One and Two in their History and Geography lessons and have all been very interested to find out about the history of the wars in the locality. They have been on a walk around Saltford, where they visited an Anderson shelter and learnt about the plane which crashed very close to the school.
"The children certainly benefitted from every aspect of the afternoon, which brought their study of World War One to a conclusion.“
Ruth Hayden from Saltford Primary School added:
"The children at Saltford School were delighted to welcome Goldies and other local residents to our wonderful concert commemorating the hundredth anniversary of World War One. The children came to school dressed in their costumes and sang a whole range of songs interspersed with poetry from that era. Our visitors were then invited to join together for tea and cakes and had a very enjoyable afternoon. Thank you for making this such a memorable occasion."
Goldies founder Grenville Jones said;
“The children arrived in school in costumes put together by parents and all looked fabulous as evacuees, the Land Army, the Armed Forces and other costumes dating back to war times.
“The staff looked the part with the ladies from the WI and the men in costumes representing the armed forces. Following the impressive concert, the audience was treated to tea and cakes provided by, and served by, the staff and parents.
“It was a lovely time for everyone and we look forward to hearing the Saltford children sing again at our Pavilion day on July 11.”
