Howard Cunningham-Smith is the Chairman, Grenville Jones is the Project Director for Golden-Oldies and Abby Rakes is the full time Administrator. Abby and Grenville regularly take sessions.
Howard Cunningham-Smith
Howard Cunningham-Smith is Chairman of the Golden-Oldies Charity. He brings to the role considerable experience of working with charities. He is a successful senior professional fundraiser with 22 years experience raising over £9 million for causes including Children Charities, Older people Charities, Capital Appeals, Christian Organisations, and Medical Research. He has generated income through Individuals, trusts and foundations, National Lottery, Companies, Government funding and Community fundraising.
As well as being Chairman of Golden Oldies., he is also advisor to a number of charities and charity trustees, and is currently engaged in an employee mentoring project.
He lives at Poole and other interests include ballroom dancing around the world! He also enjoys camping in Britain and Europe and is also completing a history course, doing travel writing; relearning the piano and - when time allows - enjoying his retirement.
Grenville Jones
Grenville Jones is well-known and respected as a choir leader and musician in the West of England. He was named Bath Man of the Year 2008 by the Bath Chronicle for his work with Golden-Oldies and is a Mayor of Bath's Citizen of the Year 2009. He was nominated by a group of people who attend a Goldies session in Bath each week.
He is the man with a reputation for getting people to sing. Grenville is a member of the Association of British Choral Directors (ABCD) and founder conductor of The City of Bath Male Choir, which he started in February 2006 and now already has over 90 singers, reaching Top 5 and national acclaim in the BBC Last Choir Standing series. Grenville also has a ladies close-harmony/swing group called Stockingtops and he coaches a girls’ choir at the famous Norland College for Nannies in Bath. In May 2009 he launched a new daytime choir for retired and unemployed people called The Good Afternoon Choir.

Abby Rakes
Abby Rakes has always been very musical and attended piano, voice and flute lessons throughout her schooling. Whilst at secondary school, Abby became the founder member of the Bath & North East Somerset county choir, Cantilena. After completing her GCSE's and A Levels, Abby went to Bournemouth University where she attained a BSc (HONS) in Business Information Systems Management. Although heavily involved in the Bournemouth University Choir and Orchestra, Abby still found time to be a member of a choir in Bath.
After training in management for giant supermarket chain Tesco, Abby took the plunge and applied for the position of Golden-Oldies Administrator and has been with the charity since April 2008.
Our Other Trustees
Mike Richardson FCA - Director of Bath Chartered Accountancy practice Richardson Swift and has been working in this professional field for more than 30 years. He is increasingly involved with Charity work acting as both Trustee and accountant. His many sporting interests have included playing rugby and cricket in the past, but now enjoys the more peaceful pastimes of fly-fishing and more occasional golf.
Ian Head - Ian is the the Manager of Bath Community Transport. He is responsible for providing accessible transport to the elderly and disabled members of Bath. Ian is 48 years old and has lived and worked in Bath all his life. He sings with the Bath Male Choir and Bath Chorus.
Dick Jenkins - Since graduating from Trinity College, Cambridge in 1979 Dick Jenkins has built his career in the diverse worlds of Market Research and Financial Services. Now Chief Executive of Bath Building Society, and living near Stroud, Dick has developed strong ties in the West Country. Outside work Dick is passionate about Country Music and plays guitar in a band.
Dr Afroditi Stathi - Afroditi is a Lecturer in Exercise Psychology at the School for Health at the University of Bath. Her research focuses on the relationship between physical activity and well-being (particularly in older adults), and on the design and evaluation of lifestyle interventions targeting sedentary people. Afroditi leads the Avon Network for the Promotion of Active Ageing in the Community. She has attracted funding from Research Councils, the European Commission, Local Authorities, and Primary Care Trusts.
Raymond Friel MA (Hons), PGCE, NPQH - Raymond has been Headteacher, St Gregory’s Catholic College, Bath, since 2004; b. Greenock, 1963 ; m., Janet Anne; 3 sons. Education: St Mary’s College, Blairs, Aberdeen; University of Glasgow (First Class Honours in English); Exeter College, Oxford. Teacher of English, St Charles Catholic Sixth form College, London, 1990-96; Head of English, St Augustine’s Catholic College, Trowbridge, 1996-2002; Headteacher, St Joseph’s Catholic School, Salisbury, 2002-04. Publications: Seeing the River (1995), Stations of the Heart (2008). Recreations: the arts; family; fresh air!
Imogen Sellers - Imogen started her journalistic career on the Bath Chronicle and was crime reporter - before joining Bath FM for its launch, followed by freelancing for HTV. She then joined BBC Points West in 2001 where she is a presenter and reporter. Imogen has done most jobs in the news room though in Bristol from producing, forward planning, editing and even on occasions filming. She has had a little time out to have two children - now six and three – and is now enjoying being back reporting and presenting. She has covered a wide variety of stories, including interviewing David Cameron on the campaign trail, to filming with Katie Price, aka Jordon, as she promoted her latest book! Lots of highs, including broadcasting live from a balloon over Bristol, and a few lows, including having to try and ice skate with Russian ice dancers. Imogen is married to Martin, an osteopath here in Bath, and we live in the city too. She grew up near Frome and went to school in Bruton and studied Social Anthropology and Geography at Swansea (although she still can't read a map!) before doing a post grad course in newspaper journalism in Sussex.
