Why?

WHY start a Registered Charity called Golden-Oldies?

The BBC2 Television programme The Zimmers in 2007 highlighted social issues and loneliness facing older people in the UK. At the time, Gordon Lishman, Director General of Age Concern said:

"For many older people, later life is not a time for pipe and slippers but for enjoying all sorts of pursuits. Millions of people are living in isolation and missing out on regular contact with family and friends."

The Golden-Oldies Charitable Trust takes forward this theme with an initial project in Bath & North East Somerset. This is supported by TESCO as well as the local housing provider, Somer Community Housing Trust, HSBC and other community groups and Trusts.

Goldie singing sessions were launched in the Bath & North East Somerset area in January this year. They are based on the great sing-along hits of the 60s, 70s & 80s. In Lazing on a Sunny Afternoon – Summer Holiday – In The Summertime – Downtown - Hi Ho Silver Lining and many more.

The Goldies sessions started in Bath & North East Somerset in January this year. Click here for those venues. We want to take Golden-Oldies across the UK in the next 10 years and our project director Grenville Jones is already planning the BIG SING which will be in London in 5 years time with Goldies coaching it to London from across the UK for a fantastic day out!

The pilot is in Bath & North East Somerset and if you are reading this from elsewhere in the UK and are wondering how Golden-Oldies can be introduced in your area then we would like to hear from you. Please email our project director and we will get back to you.

We hope you find this website informative and answers all your questions about how to become a Goldie!
