Golden-Oldies is a Registered Charity that recognizes the fact that there are many thousands of lonely elderly people residing in the United Kingdom.
The base of the charity’s work is to forge links with housing associations, local authorities and other community groups, to establish regular singing sessions which will be open to anyone aged around 70 and over.
The music at these sessions will be the “Golden Oldies”, the hits of the fifties, sixties and seventies. These will be sung to backing tracks with the emphasis on fun, friendship and the well-documented healthy exercise of singing. At the same time, sessions will strive to instill a sense of achievement and ambition to reach a high standard of music making, this is more than community singing. Golden-Oldies will bring a new interest into the lives of thousands of elderly. A reason to get up in the morning, something to aim at. The Golden-Oldies ethos will be to give enjoyment and companionship friendship through music.
Each area will host its own major annual concert. The “Goldies” will also join together to perform at additional BIG SING concerts. Volunteers will be encouraged to become involved and the social programme will include excursions and visits to other Goldie sessions.
All those taking part will be known as “Goldies”. Businesses supporting the Charity will be “Business Goldies”, volunteers will be “Volunteer Goldies”. “Goldies” will be the promoted brand name of the Charity. Whilst the singing sessions will form the basis of this community project, it is the aim of the Trustees to develop Golden-Oldies to encompass a much wider social brief.
